2018 Poppy Campaign Beats Record
Westmount, Quebec – 23 November 2018: The RMR Association (Branch 14) has confirmed that 2018 was the most successful year ever in their 99-year history. The President of the RMR Association, Comrade Sue Guerin, asked Comrade Georges Gohier, the Poppy Campaign Chairman, to report the results at the General Meeting of the Branch held on Friday 23 November 2018, and he was pleased to report that 2018 exceeded 2017’s record “by a good margin”.
Part of the success can be explained by the length of the campaign, which always starts on the last Friday in October, and depending on the year can range from 10 – 17 days long. However, both Comrades Guerin and Gohier agreed that the RMR Association’s success was mostly due to the dedication & professionalism of their members – and the outstanding support received from the members of the serving battalion. “We couldn’t have done it without them”, reported Comrade Guerin.
RMR Association poppy kiosks were staffed by uniformed members who stood and greeted all visitors, and always offered to pin the poppy on each donor. Small touches like the free addition of a pin backer that helps retain the poppy firmly on a garment, as well as the additional poppy merchandise items for sale, really helped the RMR Association distinguish themselves.
Special thanks to Comrades Leslie Newman and Joel Tartiere, who volunteered for every single day – bravo!
