The Honourable Harjit Singh Sajjan

Westmount, Quebec – 05 November 2015: Minister Sajjan is the newly-elected MP for Vancouver South and was appointed as Minister of National Defence yesterday in an Ottawa ceremony. He grew up in his riding and later walked the streets of Vancouver as a detective with the Vancouver Police Department’s Gang Crime Unit. As a Reservist he served one tour in Bosnia and been deployed three times to Afghanistan.

Minister Sajjan’s experience as an Army Reservist, a Vancouver police officer, and a community leader is especially welcome, as a former Reservist and a past commanding officer of The British Columbia Regiment (Duke of Connaught’s Own), an historic Canadian armoured regiment, Minister Sajjan brings considerable experience in military training and operations at home and abroad to this important Cabinet assignment.

The RMR Foundation wishes Minister Sajjan the best of luck in his new challenging assignment.
