Westmount, Quebec – 07 June 2016: For the first time in recent history there will be a full-scale military gala ball held in Montreal. Hosted by 2nd Field Regiment, the ball will be held at their Côte-des-Neiges armoury on Saturday 24 September 2016.
Each unit from 34 Groupe-Brigade will be represented, and the aim of the evening is to honour the soldiers from the units who have gone above & beyond during the 2015-16 training year. The units will be honoured in a procession at the start of the evening, and there will be music provided by military bands, orchestra, and a rock band.
This event’s primary objective is to raise funds and awareness for Montreal’s disadvantaged veterans – those suffering from Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and homelessness. Funds will be directed to the Respect Campaign and the Canadian Morale and Welfare Services of the Canadian Armed Forces (CFMWS) to support programs in the Montreal Region. It is estimated that there are more than 200 homeless military veterans in Montreal alone. This frightening statistic casts a different light on homelessness – a sad reality likely due to PTSD or mental health issues. It is our duty to take care of these military veterans in desperate need.
