RMR Association (Legion Branch 14) awards new bursaries, honours long service

Westmount, 03 May 14: The RMR Association – Branch 14 (Royal Canadian Legion) held its annual Awards and Honours night on Friday, 02 May 2014 at the WO’s & Sgt’s Mess, toasting honorees with a wine and cheese.

An annual tradition, the wine and cheese brought together members and family from the branch to enjoy good food, drink and camaraderie at the RMR. Twenty-two members of the branch were awarded for long service this year, include several that reached significant anniversary milestones:

• Cde. Leslie Newman – 35 years

• Cde. Mike Fitzgerald, branch president – 30 years

• Cde. Tom Stibernik, treasurer – 5 years

• Cde. Toby Glickman – 5 years

• Cde. Timothy Reid – 5 years

• and many more…

The night also served as an excellent opportunity to hand out the inaugural RMR Association bursary, with three bursaries awarded to deserving candidates pursuing higher education. This year’s winners are Paul Barre Glickman, Alexa Kwasiborski and Alexander Glickman Fulleringer. Each winner earned a bursary of $1500 to go towards their post-secondary studies. This is the first year of the RMR Association Bursary program, made possible through the local Poppy Trust Fund.  Congratulations to the winners!
