Westmount, Quebec – 17 October 2019: The RMR Association (Branch 14, Royal Canadian Legion) held a dinner dance last night in the armoury to celebrate their 100th anniversary.

Approximately 125 people gathered on the parade square to break bread together, enjoy each other’s company, catch up with old friends, and listen to some entertaining speeches.

The organizing committee had invited two distinguished RMR’s to be the co-guests of Honour, each of whom are uniquely qualified to speak to all present about the importance of this anniversary to the Regiment:

  • Senior Regimental Sergeant Major CWO (ret’d) Brian Colgan, CD
  • Senior Regimental Combatant Officer Colonel (ret’d) Chuck Hamel, CD

Both gave accounts of their service and the importance of looking out for each other. The “buddy system” doesn’t stop once you leave the army, we all need to keep vigilant and help each other through the rough patches.

After the formal portion of the dinner was concluded with a toast to the Regiment proposed by the Honorary Colonel, Lieutenant0Colonel (ret’d) Colin Robinson, and a final toast to the RMR Association proposed by Comrade Sue Guerin, the DJ cranked the music and the dancing began in earnest!

Most people present ignored the fact that they’re “not as young as they think they are”, and a good time was had by all!
