Westmount, Quebec – 15 May 2022: In the presence of Colonel Alain Cohen, Commander of 34th Brigade Group, The Royal Montreal Regiment conducted a change of command ceremony between Lieutenant-Colonel John Shone and Lieutenant-Colonel Maciej Jonasz on Sunday 15 May 2022.

Lieutenant-Colonel Shone started with the Regiment as a Private in the late 1980’s, rising in rank to command the RMR from 2002 – 05. He later commanded the CGG from 2005-08, and then commanded the 34 Brigade school before returning to command the RMR again in 2017. He is the longest serving CO in RMR history. Lieutenant-Colonel Shone will be assuming a staff position at 2ieme Division shortly.

Lieutenant-Colonel Jonasz first joined the Canadian Armed Forces in 1993, serving in The Black Watch (Royal Highland Regiment) of Canada. After rising in the ranks and attaining the rank of Sergeant, he left the army in 2001 to dedicate himself to his civilian career. Missing the adventure, he re-enrolled in 2006 and was soon commissioned as an Infantry Officer. In 2014 he transferred to the RMR as a Captain, starting as the Regiment’s Operations Officer, and since then he has served in a variety of command and staff roles within the Regiment.

Thank you & good luck to LCol Shone, and ‘welcome aboard’ LCol Jonasz!
