Virtual Levée to start 2022
Westmount, Quebec – 01 January 2022: Due to the restrictions on gatherings imposed by the Covid-19 pandemic, the members of The Royal Montreal Regiment were not able to hold their annual Levée Day. Instead, the Honorary Colonel hosted a virtual Levée event, where approximately 25 people gathered in a “virtual mess” to exchange best wishes for the New Year. Serving and former members alike made the effort to meet online, including Major Dexter Ruiz-Lang who joined us from Baghdad, Iraq, where he is currently deployed.
Marking the New Year with a Levée is an important – and uniquely Canadian – custom that helps us bond together as a Regimental family. While the current Covid 19 pandemic restrictions mean that we must forego the pleasure of greeting each other in person, we could still gather virtually and exchange best wishes – and not just for the New Year. All members of the RMR family are encouraged to check in on each other and help each other through the next few months which are likely going to be the toughest in terms of isolation due to Covid 19.
Despite the fact that we’ve now done two virtual Levée Day’s (2021 + 2022), and as we all know that if we do something twice in the RMR then it automatically becomes a tradition, here’s sincerely hoping that we never have a ‘virtual Levée Day’ because of a Covid pandemic again!
