Comrade Albert Sebe Honoured with Eagle Feather

Westmount, Quebec – 20 July 2025: During the Kahnawake Powwow held on 12 July 2025, Comrade Albert Sebe of Branch 14 (RMR Association) was honoured with a symbolic eagle feather. His reflections are captured below:
On July 12th, 2025, at the Kahnawake Powwow, I was deeply honoured by Elder Ray Deer, President of the Mohawk Legion Branch 219, who recognized my years of service as a civilian instructor with the Army Cadets. In a powerful and symbolic gesture, he presented me with the honour of an Eagle feather — a profound expression of gratitude and respect from the Mohawk community.
This recognition was not for a single act, but for the many years I have spent mentoring youth, helping to guide the next generation with care, discipline, and purpose. Within Indigenous traditions, being a teacher and mentor is considered a sacred role, and to be acknowledged in this way is something I will never forget.
To be clear, while the feather itself was symbolic — in accordance with legal and cultural protocols that reserve possession of actual eagle feathers to Indigenous people — the honour it represents is no less significant. In many Indigenous cultures, an Eagle feather symbolizes strength, service, and connection to the Creator. It is a sacred gesture, and I accept it with deep humility and gratitude.
