Westmount, Quebec – 23 November 2025: From 21–23 November 2025, a platoon from The Royal Montreal Regiment’s (RMR) “B” Company deployed to CFB Valcartier to take part in the BIL-R’s Exercise XERUS AGUERRI as part of a composite infantry battalion drawn from across 34 Canadian Brigade Group.

RMR troops known for the exercise as 13 Platoon were tasked with conducting a raid on an urban operations village, giving soldiers a valuable opportunity to refine their close-quarters skills in a complex, built-up environment. Working alongside other Reserve infantry units, the platoon planned and executed deliberate operations that tested section- and platoon-level tactics, communication, and leadership under pressure.

The exercise provided realistic training in:

  • Urban operations: moving, communicating, and fighting in tight spaces and multi-storey structures.

  • Interoperability: integrating RMR soldiers into a composite battalion with troops from across 34 CBG.

  • Leadership development: giving junior NCOs and section commanders the chance to run demanding missions in the field.

The weekend in Valcartier also marked milestone in two soldiers’ careers. During the exercise, Privates Osegueda and Martineau were promoted to the rank of Corporal.

Exercises like XERUS AGUERRI are a reminder that the Regiment’s soldiers—ordinary Canadians doing extraordinary things—continue to train hard, integrate with partner units, and remain ready to serve wherever they are needed, at home or abroad.
