Corporal Tobas Departs with Dignity After More Than 23 Years of Service
Westmount, Quebec – 30 August 2025 – Many members of the Regimental Family gathered at The Royal Montreal Regiment (RMR) armoury on Saturday, 30 August 2025, to celebrate Corporal Tobas’s retirement and mark his Depart With Dignity (DWD) ceremony.
Enrolling on 05 February 2002 and promoted to Corporal in 2004, Corporal Tobas served the Regiment for more than twenty-three years. His record includes domestic and expeditionary service—Op LENTUS (2017) and Op REASSURANCE (2024)—as well as a long list of qualifications that made him a dependable soldier and driver, from LSVW Driver (2005) to Combat First Aider (2024) and MSVS Standard Military Pattern Cargo (2024). His decorations reflect sustained service and overseas operations: General Campaign Star – South-West Asia (2009) with rotation bar (2012), Canadian Forces Decoration (2014) with First Clasp (2024), and the NATO Special Service Medal (2025).
The ceremony followed the CAF DWD program, which formalizes recognition for every retiring member. Among the presentations to Corporal Tobas were:
- A letter from the Prime Minister’s Office, Prime Minister Mark Carney.
- A Certificate of Service and Silver Service Pin from the Chief of the Defence Staff, General Jennie Carignan.
- An RMR plaque from the Junior Ranks’ Mess.
- A Canada Post commemorative stamp (RMR “100 Years of Service”) and an RMR polo shirt from the RMR Museum and Branch 14.
Family, friends, and comrades applauded a career marked by steadiness, humility, and service. Thank you for your service, Corporal Tobas.
