Four New Master Corporals Strengthen the Regiment’s Leadership Core

Westmount, Quebec – 07 October 2025: The Royal Montreal Regiment (RMR) is proud to welcome four new Master Corporals into our ranks: MCpl Calixte, MCpl Doughty, MCpl Razavi, and MCpl Osegueda-Lemus.

Each of these soldiers successfully completed their Primary Leadership Qualification (PLQ) course last summer—one of the most demanding milestones in a soldier’s career. The PLQ marks the transition from being a competent team member to becoming a leader responsible for others. It is not simply a test of skill or endurance; it is a proving ground for judgment, composure, and initiative under pressure.

For Infantry soldiers, the PLQ is particularly rigorous. Over several weeks, candidates endure intense field exercises, long rucksack marches, sleepless nights, and a relentless tempo of orders, planning, and leadership evaluations. They are assessed not only on their tactical proficiency—patrolling, section attacks, navigation, and fieldcraft—but also on their ability to lead small teams effectively in complex, high-stress environments. It is a test of endurance and character that separates those who can perform under supervision from those who can lead under fire.

Having earned their new rank, these Master Corporals now take on one of the most essential roles in the Canadian Armed Forces. The Infantry Master Corporal is often the backbone of a platoon—responsible for mentoring junior soldiers, enforcing discipline, and maintaining the combat readiness of their section. Whether coordinating training, managing equipment, or leading troops in the field, they serve as the vital link between the soldiers on the ground and the senior non-commissioned officers who command above them.

With this promotion comes greater responsibility, and the Regiment is confident that MCpl Calixte, MCpl Doughty, MCpl Razavi, and MCpl Osegueda-Lemus will continue to embody the RMR’s high standards of leadership, professionalism, and esprit de corps.

Honi Soit Qui Mal Y Pense.
