Westmount, Quebec – 05 October 2025: On a Tuesday evening at the Westmount Armoury, a time-honoured regimental tradition unfolded as the Commanding Officer, Lieutenant-Colonel Kevin Langlois, personally badged the newest members of The Royal Montreal Regiment (RMR).

For any soldier, receiving a unit’s badge is a proud milestone—but within the RMR, it carries particular weight. The Regiment’s cap badge, emblazoned with its royal cypher and motto Honi Soit Qui Mal Y Pense, represents far more than a piece of metal. It signifies acceptance into a cohort that traces its service from the mud of Flanders through to modern operations around the world.

In keeping with RMR custom, only soldiers who have successfully completed their trade qualification are entitled to wear the badge. The ceremony marks their official transition from recruits to full members of the Regiment, entrusted to uphold its hard-earned reputation for discipline, professionalism, and esprit de corps.

LCol Langlois emphasized that the badge is not a right but a privilege—one earned through dedication, perseverance, and the shared hardships of training. “This is more than a piece of metal; it’s a symbol of your achievement, your commitment, and your belonging.” he told the gathered soldiers, “You are now fully badged members of the RMR. Wear it with pride.”

The evening carried echoes of past generations of RMR soldiers who, since the Regiment’s formation in 1914, have received their badges before deploying overseas or joining active service. As the new members stood proudly in their uniform, surrounded by fellow soldiers and mentors, they joined a lineage over a century old—a living reminder that the RMR’s spirit continues to grow, one badge at a time.
