2027 Vimy Pilgrimage Award: A Once-in-a-Lifetime Opportunity
Westmount, Quebec – 25 October 2026: Applications are now open for the 2027 Vimy Pilgrimage Award, offering 20 outstanding young Canadians the opportunity to travel to France and Belgium on a fully funded educational journey exploring Canada’s First World War history.
Organized by the Vimy Foundation, the award recognizes young Canadians aged 15 to 17 who have demonstrated exceptional commitment to their communities through volunteering, leadership, and acts of service.
The application deadline is 25 November 2026.
The pilgrimage will take place from 3–11 April 2027, bringing participants to some of the most significant battlefields, cemeteries, museums, and memorials of the First World War. The itinerary includes the Canadian National Vimy Memorial, where participants will commemorate the 110th anniversary of the Battle of Vimy Ridge on 9 April 2027.
For the regimental family of The Royal Montreal Regiment (RMR), this opportunity carries particular significance. Formed in 1914, the RMR fought through some of the most devastating battles of the First World War, including Vimy Ridge. By the war’s end, 1,193 RMR soldiers had made the ultimate sacrifice. Their service and sacrifice remain an enduring part of the Regiment’s history.
The Vimy Pilgrimage Award offers a new generation the opportunity to walk the ground where Canadians fought, better understand the human cost of war, and discover the importance of remembrance firsthand.
An Exceptional Opportunity for Our Cadets
The RMR encourages eligible members of its affiliated Cadet corps and squadron, as well as young people throughout the greater regimental family, to consider applying.
The award is not simply about academic achievement or an interest in military history. The Vimy Foundation places particular emphasis on young people who make a positive difference in their communities.
Whether through Cadet activities, volunteering, community projects, or helping others, applicants are encouraged to demonstrate how their actions reflect a commitment to service.
Successful applicants will join fellow young Canadians for an immersive educational experience, developing friendships and a deeper appreciation of Canada’s military heritage.
