Westmount, Quebec – 13 May 2026: There are moments in regimental life that remind us that service is measured not only in years, but in shared experiences, friendships forged, and quiet dedication carried over time.

During the recent Battalion Review that followed church parade, The Royal Montreal Regiment (RMR) marked one such rare and meaningful occasion as four members who all enrolled on the exact same day were recognized together with the Canadian Forces’ Decoration (CD).

Created in 1949, the CD recognizes officers and non-commissioned members of the Canadian Armed Forces who have completed twelve years of honourable service and maintained a record of good conduct. It remains one of the Canadian Armed Forces’ most respected symbols of dedication, professionalism, and loyal service to Canada.

In recognition of this unique shared milestone, the Regiment proudly called forward:

  1. Major Dexter Ruiz-Lang, CD
  2. Sergeant Paola Dimayuga, CD
  3. Sergeant Sima Mai, CD
  4. Captain Philippe Rousseau-Filiteau, CD

As custom dictates, no member of the Colour Party may fall out while entrusted with the sacred duty of protecting the Colours. Accordingly, the Command Team moved directly to the Colours to present the decoration in place to the Senior Colour Officer: Captain Philippe Rousseau-Filiteau, CD

What made this presentation especially meaningful was not simply twelve years of honourable service, but the remarkable fact that all four members began their military journeys on the very same day, and twelve years later stood together once more to receive one of Canada’s most respected military distinctions.

In a Regiment built on tradition, loyalty, and shared hardship, such moments are rare. For RMR, this historic presentation served as a powerful reminder that while military careers may take different paths, the bonds forged on day one often endure for a lifetime.
