Westmount, Quebec – 12 May 2026: Following the traditional annual church parade and Battalion Review on Sunday afternoon, Lieutenant-Colonel Kevin Langlois, Commanding Officer of The Royal Montreal Regiment (RMR), continued one of the Regiment’s most cherished traditions by presenting the City of Westmount with its annual rent payment of $1.00.

This year, the ceremonial payment was received by His Worship Mayor Michael Stern, symbolizing yet another chapter in the enduring relationship between the Regiment and the city it has proudly called home for more than a century.

The annual $1.00 lease is far more than a symbolic gesture. It reflects a historic agreement dating back to 1925, when the City of Westmount generously leased the land on Saint-Catherine Street to the Regiment for ninety-nine years at the remarkable rate of just one dollar per annum. With support from the Westmount community and what is today known as the RMR Foundation, the armoury was constructed and officially became the Regiment’s home later that same year.

More than a century after the RMR first became known as “Westmount’s Regiment,” this simple exchange continues to serve as a powerful reminder of the deep bonds between the soldiers of the RMR and the citizens they proudly serve.
