RMR Soldiers Complete Infantry Basic Machine Gun Course

Westmount, Quebec, 03 June 2026 – Three members of The Royal Montreal Regiment (RMR) recently completed the Infantry Basic Machine Gun course, adding an important infantry qualification to the Regiment’s operational depth.
Corporal Adam Aktas, Corporal Ziqin Dai, and Private Alex Hold successfully completed the part-time course, which ran from 27 March to 10 May 2026. The Infantry Basic Machine Gun course develops soldiers in the employment of the C6 General Purpose Machine Gun, including its use in the sustained-fire role, where the weapon is mounted on a tripod to provide a stable and effective fire-support platform.
For infantry soldiers, machine-gun proficiency remains a core battlefield skill. The C6 provides the section and platoon with the ability to deliver heavy, accurate, and sustained fire in support of movement, defence, and other tactical tasks. Soldiers trained on the system learn not only how to operate the weapon, but how to apply it as part of a broader fire plan.
The course also included qualification on the C22 pistol, further broadening the soldiers’ weapons handling and marksmanship skills.
The successful completion of the course by Corporal Aktas, Corporal Dai, and Private Hold reflects the continued professionalism of RMR soldiers as they pursue the demanding qualifications required of infantry service. Their achievement strengthens both their own capabilities and the Regiment’s ability to support operations within 34 Canadian Brigade Group and beyond.
