RMR Armoury’s Sign Officially Renamed

Westmount, Quebec – 04 May 2026: For more than a hundred years now, the home of The Royal Montreal Regiment (RMR) has stood proudly on Saint-Catherine Street in Westmount as a place where ordinary Canadians have prepared to do extraordinary things in service to country. This spring, the official DND sign outside that home took on a name that now speaks even more clearly to the history, sacrifice, and leadership that built it.
In a ceremony attended by military members, honoured guests, civic leaders, and members of the regimental family, the Regiment officially unveiled the new exterior signage of what will now be known as the Major-General Charles Basil Price, CB, DSO, DCM, VD, CD. Armoury.

The RMR’s padre, Captain Rici Be, presided over the rededication ceremony, reading remarks prepared by the Captain-Adjutant, Captain Paul Kavanagh:
Ladies and Gentlemen, honoured guests, and members of The Royal Montreal Regiment,
Today marks an important moment for our Regiment, for the City of Westmount, and for the Canadian Army, as we formally unveil the exterior signage of this armoury under its new name: the Major‑General Charles Basil Price CB, DSO, DCM, VD, CD. Armoury
CB, DSO, DCM, VD, CD.
On November 5, 2025, the Commander of the Canadian Army approved the renaming of the former Ste‑Catherine Armoury. This decision reflects not only historical accuracy, but also a deliberate act of remembrance—ensuring that the name carried by this building speaks clearly to the values, service, and legacy it represents.
Major‑General Price served with distinction in both World Wars and held some of the most senior appointments in the Canadian Army, including Commanding Officer of The Royal Montreal Regiment, Commander of 3rd Canadian Infantry Brigade, and Commander of 3rd Canadian Infantry Division. His gallantry and leadership were recognized through numerous decorations.
His contribution to The Royal Montreal Regiment was transformational. At a critical moment in the Regiment’s post‑war history, Major‑General Price ensured its long‑term stability by securing this very armoury as a permanent home—through determination, civic engagement, and an extraordinary partnership with the City of Westmount.
The legacy of Major‑General Price endures today. It lives on in the Regiment’s culture, in its emphasis on humility, merit, and service, and in symbols such as the Price Badge, proudly worn by the Regimental Sergeant‑Major on ceremonial occasions.
May the Major‑General Charles Basil Price Armoury stand as a visible reminder of exemplary service, principled leadership, and enduring commitment—to Regiment, community, and country.
Je vous remercie.
Thank you.
