Westmount, Quebec – 12 June 2025: The Royal Montreal Regiment welcomed home two of its members from overseas deployment this June, as Master-Corporal Clayton Symon and Corporal Andrei Serjant returned from Operation UNIFIER Roto 19—Canada’s military training mission in support of Ukraine.

Master-Corporal Symon returned on Wednesday, 04 June, and Corporal Serjant followed shortly after on Sunday, 08 June, both concluding their tours approximately one month early. They had deployed in January 2025 to the United Kingdom, where they served as instructors within a joint Canadian-Ukrainian company focused on leadership development for combat veterans and basic training for newly drafted Ukrainian recruits. Master-Corporal Symon was promoted to section commander during the tour in recognition of his exceptional leadership and instructional skill, and Corporal Serjant received a Commander’s Coin for his outstanding service, particularly his crucial work translating between English and Russian throughout the courses.

Operating under austere conditions and with limited infrastructure, each soldier led two consecutive 50-day training cycles. Their Ukrainian trainees—many of whom had direct experience on the frontlines—returned to Ukraine after completing the Canadian-led courses.

The RMR still has Corporal Frattaroli deployed on the same operation; his return is expected at the end of June. We wish him a safe and successful conclusion to his tour.
