We Will Remember Them: Private Lewis Edgar West

The graves of 80 RMR’s are laid out together in one row at Nine Elms cemetery, all killed on the assault on Vimy Ridge, 09 April 1917

Westmount, Quebec – 30 October 2021: Inspired by the book “Canada’s Dream Shall Be of Them – Canadian Epitaphs of the Great War,” by Eric McGeer and Steve Douglas, the RMR Foundation will be posting an epitaph each day during the annual Poppy Campaign that runs until 11 November 2021.

This second epitaph is an equally sad one as the first two West brothers, for it is their third brother, Lewis being killed nearly four months to the day after his brothers:

“IN LOVING MEMORY OF OUR BELOVED SON WHO DIED FOR KING AND COUNTRY”

Private Lewis Edgar West, 14th Battalion, September 7th, 1917 (age 23)
