Westmount, Quebec – 14 June 2026: Cadet Chief Warrant Officer Matis Caron received one of the Canadian Cadet Organizations’ highest honours during the annual ceremonial review of 2806 Pointe-Claire (RMR) Royal Canadian Army Cadet Corps.

The Lord Strathcona Medal was presented to Cadet CWO Caron by the Commanding Officer of The Royal Montreal Regiment (RMR), Lieutenant-Colonel Kevin Langlois, marking a significant achievement in his cadet career and recognizing the example he has set within the corps.

Awarded through the Lord Strathcona Trust, the medal recognizes exemplary performance in physical training, together with outstanding service, dedication and excellence as a cadet. Recipients must have completed at least three years in the Cadet Program, fulfilled all requirements of their corps’ annual training program and earned the respect of both their peers and supervisors as a model cadet.

Only one Lord Strathcona Medal may be awarded by a cadet corps during a training year. The award is not automatic, and an individual may receive it only once. Cadet CWO Caron’s selection therefore represents a particularly distinguished recognition of his performance, leadership and commitment.

The medal’s origins date to the Strathcona Trust, established by Donald Alexander Smith, 1st Baron Strathcona and Mount Royal, to encourage physical development, self-discipline, good citizenship and patriotism among Canadian youth. The first medals were presented to deserving cadets in 1923.

The presentation by the RMR’s Commanding Officer also reflected the close relationship between the Regiment and its affiliated cadet corps. Through opportunities to lead, train and serve others, cadets such as Cadet CWO Caron are helping to carry forward the values of leadership, discipline and service that unite the greater regimental family.

The RMR congratulates Cadet CWO Matis Caron on this exceptional and well-deserved honour.
