Building the Next Generation: Sergeant Oleshko Receives Command Team Coin

Westmount, Quebec – 15 June 2026: Every successful regiment relies upon experienced non-commissioned officers who preserve standards, pass on knowledge, and develop the next generation of soldiers. In recent memory, few have had a greater impact in this regard than Sergeant Alexi Oleshko.
A member of The Royal Montreal Regiment (RMR) since May 2007, Sergeant Oleshko is best known for his role as Company Sergeant-Major of Headquarters and Service Company. Over nearly two decades of service, he became one of the key figures responsible for shaping how the Regiment trains and develops its newest soldiers.
Training recruits is one of the most important responsibilities within any infantry regiment. It requires careful planning, technical expertise, patience, and a commitment to maintaining high standards. Sergeant Oleshko consistently excelled in this demanding role.
The success of his efforts has not gone unnoticed. Across 34 Canadian Brigade Group, the RMR has earned a reputation for producing exceptionally well-trained recruits for career courses, a distinction that reflects years of dedication by leaders such as Sergeant Oleshko. The positive effects of that work will continue to be felt for years to come as successive generations of soldiers benefit from the foundation he helped build.
The presentation of the Command Team Coin at the Battalion Review on 03 May 2026 was also a bittersweet moment. On the same parade, Sergeant Oleshko received his Canadian Armed Forces Certificate of Service and lapel pin, marking 19 years of loyal and dedicated service to both the Regiment and the Canadian Armed Forces. The Battalion Review was his final duty with the CAF and brought to a close a remarkable chapter of service that began nearly two decades earlier.
For his longstanding contributions as a soldier, leader, mentor, and professional, Sergeant Oleshko was awarded the Command Team Coin. As he departs the Regiment, the officers, soldiers, and veterans of the RMR thank him for his outstanding service and wish him every success in the years ahead.
