Corporal Sivadiran Sivaraman Earns Best Rifle Shot Trophy

Westmount, Quebec – 04 June 2026: For an infanteer, few skills are more fundamental than marksmanship. While modern soldiers must master a wide range of tasks, from navigation and communications to fieldcraft and leadership, the ability to accurately engage a target remains at the core of the infantry profession.
At the Annual Battalion Review, Corporal Sivadiran Sivaraman was awarded the Best Rifle Shot Trophy, recognizing him as The Royal Montreal Regiment (RMR)’s top marksman for the 2025-26 training year.
Awarded annually to the soldier who achieves the highest score on the Personal Weapons Test (PWT), the trophy recognizes a level of proficiency that extends far beyond a single day on the range. Excellence in marksmanship is built through disciplined practice, attention to detail, and mastery of the fundamentals of shooting. Every round fired demands concentration, consistency, and confidence in one’s weapon.
For infantry soldiers, shooting proficiency is not merely a qualification requirement. It is a combat skill that can make the difference between success and failure on operations. The ability to place accurate fire on target, typically under difficult conditions and significant stress, remains as important today as it was for the generations of RMR soldiers who served before us.
By earning the Best Rifle Shot Trophy, Corporal Sivaraman has demonstrated an exceptional level of skill and professionalism while upholding one of the infantry’s most enduring standards. His achievement serves as an example to all members of the Regiment and reinforces the importance of maintaining excellence in the soldier’s primary weapon system.
