Welcoming Gavin to the Regimental Family

Westmount, Quebec – 04 June 2026: The Royal Montreal Regiment (RMR) is more than a military unit. It is a family, one that shares in the proud moments of service and the milestones of life beyond the uniform.
On 19 May 2026, the Warrant Officers’ and Sergeants’ Mess recognized one such milestone when Sergeant Paolo Dimayuga was presented with an RMR baby blanket to commemorate the birth of his son, Gavin Eric Blanchette-Dimayuga.
Born on 25 March 2025 at 20:50 at Suroît Regional Hospital in Valleyfield, Gavin’s arrival brought great joy to Paolo and his wife, Becca. While clearly still far too young to understand the significance of the gift, Gavin has already become part of a longstanding Regimental tradition.
The presentation of RMR baby blankets to the children of Senior Non-Commissioned Officers was revived by former Regimental Sergeant-Major Robbin McIntyre. The tradition reflects an enduring truth of military service: soldiers do not serve alone. Behind every successful soldier stands a family that shares in the sacrifices, challenges, and triumphs of service.
For generations, the RMR has celebrated promotions, qualifications, and military achievements. Just as importantly, it celebrates the family milestones that strengthen the bonds of the Regimental community and ensure its future.
The Regiment extends its warmest congratulations to Paolo and Becca on the birth of Gavin and wishes them every happiness as they embark on this exciting new chapter together. Perhaps one day, Gavin’s own connection to the Regiment will begin with the blanket that welcomed him into the Regimental family.
