French Canada in World War 1
Westmount, Quebec – 20 March 2017: The University Club will be hosting a discussion on 03 April 2017 between 17h00 – 19h00 on the important and almost unknown role that French-Canadians played in the First World War. This will be of particular interest to followers of the RMR’s history, given that the RMR had the first sub-units formed entirely of French-Canadians for fighting at the front in 1915, and eventually was recognized as the first officially bilingual unit in the Canadian Armed Forces.
Historians Desmond Morton and Michel Litalien will be joined by Major-General (ret’d) Alain Forand for this evening, and the Canadian Centre for the Great War will be onsite with artefacts from their impressive collection with ties to Francophone soldiers.
Register at reception@ucmontreal.ca or by calling 514-288-0201. Cost is $25.00 for military.
