Master-Corporal Symon Earns the Silver Skier Trophy

Westmount, Quebec – 10 June 2026: Cross-country skiing has long been a demanding and rewarding part of winter soldiering. It develops endurance, resilience, navigation skills, and the ability to operate effectively in harsh conditions, all qualities that are essential to the infantry profession.
During the 2025-26 training year, Master-Corporal Clayton Symon distinguished himself by leading the RMR Ski Team in successfully completing the Commanding Officer’s Challenge, a 47-kilometre cross-country ski trip. In recognition of this achievement, he was awarded the Silver Skier Trophy at the Annual Battalion Review.
The challenge represented the culmination of months of training and preparation by the ski team. Covering 47 kilometres required physical fitness, mental toughness, and determination from every participant. Throughout the training season and during the final exercise itself, Master-Corporal Symon demonstrated the leadership and perseverance necessary to help the team achieve its objective.
While few military tasks are completed alone, successful teams often rely on individuals who are willing to set the pace, encourage their teammates, and push forward when conditions become difficult. By helping lead the team through the Commanding Officer’s Challenge, Master-Corporal Symon embodied these qualities and contributed directly to the success of the entire group.
The Silver Skier Trophy recognizes not only an impressive athletic accomplishment, but also the teamwork, leadership, and commitment required to complete one of the Regiment’s most demanding winter activities. Master-Corporal Symon’s achievement serves as an example of the determination and esprit de corps that continue to characterize The Royal Montreal Regiment (RMR).
