RIP: LCol (ret’d) John Eggenberger OMM, CD, PhD

Westmount, Quebec – 23 September 2022: The RMR Foundation regrets to announce the death of Lieutenant-Colonel (retired) John Eggenberger, OMM, CD, PhD. He served as the Regiment’s Honorary Lieutenant-Colonel from 1985 – 1990 and then as the Honorary Colonel from 1990 – 1994.
His obituary reads:
John Christian Eggenberger Lt.Col RCAF OMM CD PhD (1933 – 2022) passed on peacefully in his sleep September 3. Born to James and Martha Eggenberger in northern Alberta on November 16, 1933, a birthday he shared with his younger sister Anne, he had a long and happy life and in his later years he often expressed surprise at all the things he had done. From wildcatting on oil rigs to flying with 445 Squadron in Europe with the Royal Canadian Air Force to his return to school where he received his PhD, he had a career and life he would never have dreamed of on those cold mornings in Alberta.
An unassuming man, more comfortable wearing cowboy boots than wearing a suit, he was very proud of his family. He married another northern Alberta ex-patriot and the love of his life, Mary, in 1958 in British Columbia. John was predeceased by his son James and is survived by his wife Mary, sister Anne and children Anna (Andy), David, Michael (Bonnie) and Kathleen, as well as 8 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
