RMR Corporal Recognized for Civilian Volunteer Service and Community Leadership

Westmount, Quebec – 14 October 2026: Corporal Adam Aktas, a serving member of The Royal Montreal Regiment (RMR), was recognized on 10 October 2026 for his volunteer contributions to community mentorship and leadership, receiving certificates of recognition from Members of Parliament and a letter of appreciation from Prime Minister Mark Carney.
Importantly, Corporal Aktas undertook this work entirely in his civilian capacity, volunteering his personal time outside his duties with the RMR and the Canadian Army Reserve. His recognition celebrates his individual commitment to helping others, rather than any official military assignment.
During the summer of 2026, Corporal Aktas volunteered as an instructor and mentor on a course attended by the founder and president of the community organization NSK. Working alongside other instructors from different military units, Corporal Aktas contributed his time and knowledge to support the candidate’s development.
NSK is a community organization dedicated to helping those in need, supporting youth and promoting urban safety. Its activities reflect a commitment to strengthening communities through mentorship, outreach and opportunities for young people to make positive choices.
Corporal Aktas’s contribution was formally acknowledged during a recognition event on 10 October, where he and several fellow instructors received certificates and letters recognizing their commitment, professionalism, leadership and dedication to service.
The recognition included:
- A certificate signed by the Honourable Marjorie Michel, Member of Parliament for Papineau.
- A certificate signed by Natilien Joseph, Member of Parliament for Longueuil–Saint-Hubert.
- A letter of recognition from Éric St-Pierre, Member of Parliament for Honoré-Mercier.
- A letter of appreciation from the Right Honourable Mark Carney, Prime Minister of Canada.
The recognition highlighted values of duty, integrity, dedication and service to Canada and its citizens.
While Corporal Aktas wears the RMR cap badge during his military service, this particular achievement belongs to him as a private citizen who chose to give back to his community. His willingness to volunteer his time, share his knowledge and mentor others reflects the positive influence that members of the regimental family can have well beyond the armoury. His example reminds us that service to others does not end when the uniform comes off.
