RMR Subalterns Take Another Step Towards Earning Their Regimental Cap Badge

Westmount, Quebec – 08 October 2026: Two young officers of The Royal Montreal Regiment (RMR) marked an important milestone in their military careers when Second Lieutenants Alamy and Beland were formally presented with their Royal Canadian Infantry Corps cap badges in the Commanding Officer’s office, following the unit’s Annual Personnel Readiness Verification (APRV).
For these two subalterns, receiving the Infantry Corps cap badge represents another significant step along the demanding road to becoming fully qualified infantry officers.
Training to become an infantry officer in the Canadian Army is no small undertaking. Following their initial officer training, candidates must develop the tactical knowledge, physical endurance, leadership abilities and sound judgement required to command soldiers in the field. The progressive training program culminates in challenging infantry-specific courses designed to prepare young officers for the responsibilities of leading a platoon.
Currently at the Phase 2 stage of their professional development, 2Lt Alamy and 2Lt Beland are working towards their next major objective: successfully completing Phase 3 and earning the right to wear the RMR’s own regimental cap badge.
The distinction is an important one. The Infantry Corps badge identifies their chosen profession, while the RMR cap badge will symbolize their place in a regiment with more than a century of proud service and sacrifice.
For now, the presentation was a well-deserved moment of recognition and encouragement. Congratulations to both officers as they continue their journey towards becoming fully qualified infantry leaders. The Regiment looks forward to the day when they proudly exchange their Infantry Corps badges for those of the RMR.
