RMR Recruits Step Up for Veterans at Westmount Fundraising Walk

Participants in the True Patriot Love fundraising walk gather in Westmount on 26 September 2026. The community event, organized by Michael Ball, raised more than $7,500 in support of Canadian veterans, contributing to a national total of $150,000.

Westmount, Quebec – 07 October 2026: Five members of The Royal Montreal Regiment (RMR) Depot joined the Regimental Sergeant-Major (RSM), Chief Warrant Officer James Quesnel, on Saturday, 26 September, for a fundraising walk through Westmount in support of Canadian veterans, demonstrating that service to others begins long before a soldier completes their military training.

Organized by Mr. Michael Ball in support of True Patriot Love (TPL), the event brought together members of the local community, veterans’ supporters, and distinguished guests, including the Honourable Marc Miller, Westmount Mayor Michael Stern, and Honorary Lieutenant-Colonel Louis Vachon of Les Fusiliers Mont-Royal.

Representing the RMR were Officer Cadet Welsh and Privates Georgian, Peng, Ahmed, and Mascarinas, accompanied by the RSM.

The participants walked through Westmount’s residential neighbourhoods and Westmount Park, passing the RMR Armoury near the end of their route. The Westmount event raised more than $7,500 for veterans, contributing to an impressive $150,000 raised across Canada through the broader fundraising initiative.

For the five Depot members, the event also marked a memorable milestone in their young military careers. Upon completing the walk, each received their first challenge coin, presented by True Patriot Love in recognition of their participation.

Challenge coins are a longstanding military tradition, often presented to recognize service, achievement, or contributions to a particular cause. For these young soldiers, receiving their first coin following an act of community service was a fitting introduction to the spirit of service that defines military life.

The RMR has maintained close ties with the Westmount community for generations, and participation in initiatives such as this reinforces the Regiment’s commitment to those who have served Canada.

Congratulations to the five Depot members for representing the Regiment with pride, and thank you to Mr. Michael Ball, True Patriot Love, and everyone who helped make this worthwhile initiative a success.
